It's an opinion thing, in my opinion: it's a series about four guys on a journey to the west, there are plenty of opportunities for Shonen Ai, but it's not there. They just compliment each other and get along so much better that the others do (with the obvious exception of Hakkai and Goyjo). Let me rephrase that: Sanzo can stand Hakkai's presense far better than he can the other two, and Hakkai is just, cool enough to be paired with anyone (except Goku- he's too naive and I don't like pairings that include him).
